In case you haven’t forgotten about Anthem and all of its mess, it looks like EA and BioWare will churn out an update in the coming months that will redesign aspects of the third-person looter-shooter. According to a new blog post, the dead game is down but not out just yet.
BioWare’s general manager Casey Hudson has taken to the company’s official blog section — which he hasn’t done since September 5th, 2019 — to relay what’s going down with Anthem.
Although you can find comments on the original E3 2017 gameplay reveal trailer saying that either the final product won’t be like what was shown (which is true), or that it will be downgraded (which is also true), you can also find that all of the above paved the way to ruins.
The actual path through the ruins outlined an even disturbing picture all the way to early 2019 up until now.
With that said, we are here looking at a thing that barely clings on to life as if it were yet another victim getting ready to be axed by EA… oh, wait.
Anyway, you can read some of the blog post by Hudson on BioWare’s current plan to help “save” Anthem through this upcoming initiative:
“Over the coming months we will be focusing on a longer-term redesign of the experience, specifically working to reinvent the core gameplay loop with clear goals, motivating challenges and progression with meaningful rewards – while preserving the fun of flying and fighting in a vast science-fantasy setting. And to do that properly we’ll be doing something we’d like to have done more of the first time around – giving a focused team the time to test and iterate, focusing on gameplay first.
In the meantime, we will continue to run the current version of Anthem, but move away from full seasons as the team works towards the future of Anthem. We’ll keep the game going with events, store refreshes, and revisiting past seasonal and cataclysm content – starting with our anniversary towards the end of the month.
Creating new worlds is central to our studio mission, but it’s not easy. Sometimes we get it right, sometimes we miss. What keeps us going is the support from players like you. Your feedback gives us guidance on how we can improve, and your passion inspires us with the courage to create. I look forward to working together with your involvement and feedback towards the best possible future for Anthem.”
To summarize the whole plan, EA has given BioWare the chance to work on Anthem over the coming months by focusing on a “longer-term redesign” regarding the game’s overall experience.
This plan will specifically affect the core gameplay loop with clear goals, motivating challenges, and progression with meaningful rewards.
Nevertheless, the reinvention process will not alter the flying or fighting mechanics in the game’s science-fantasy setting. Additionally, the devs will supposedly take their time to create and test this new build — but time will tell how all of this will pan out.
In the meantime, you can expect the current version of Anthem to stay intact while the team moves away from “full seasons” to work towards the future of a “better” Anthem.
Anthem is available to pick up right now across PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
