Jagex has descended into the pit of madness. The latest update for the game that went live on February 24th featured a few changes that fans noticed were rather… politically correct. The most egregious of the changes is that the word “gypsy” was removed from the game because the Jagex developers felt that it could be interpreted as a “racial slur”.
The change was actually buried in the changelog but a few users spotted the changes and criticaed Jagex for it, which resulted in their comments being deleted over on the Runescape sub-reddit.
News spread about the censorship on the sub-reddit and the woke update when the user informed Kotaku In Action 2 about the the censorship and wokeness.
The two major changes are halfway down the patch notes page, where it has the following descriptions for the changes…
“The word ‘Gypsy’ has been removed from Aris’ name and examine text as this word could be interpreted as a racial slur.
“Various NPCs in Karamja have been given more appropriate titles.
“Various NPCs in the Kharidian Desert have had their name changed from ‘Ali’ to better reflect the diverse variety of names we see in real life.
“Some dialogue in the Kindred Spirits quest has been altered to remove unintended offense.”
It’s typical that Reddit would censor any criticism of the changes, and you can probably expect the same from Twitter and most YouTubers who don’t want to lose any ad revenue or support from the Runescape community to make excuses for the censorship.
Basically it means that Runescape and Jagex have been completely converged by the same kind of political correctness that has infected so many other properties, movies, and games.
I guess you can stick a fork in it and call it a day for this property.
