It should come in as no surprise that Beyond Good and Evil 2 boasts diversity and different cultural races like any other current year product. Despite the woke prequel to the 2003 game not being out yet, according to Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, during the company’s Q3 results, it looks like the second title will debut sometime after early 2021.
So what does this mean? Well, it means that the prequel isn’t going to debut around or after April 2021.
The above information comes in courtesy of gamesindustry.biz. The site further elaborates on the Q3 results and highlights Guillemot’s answer regarding Beyond Good and Evil 2 being part of Ubisoft’s plans for the next fiscal year, which it’s not.
Clearly, this means that Ubisoft will use this extra time to bring the prequel over to next-gen consoles as opposed to its previous plan to release it on current-gen (PS4 and Xbox One) consoles.
Sadly, this extra development time won’t clear the always-online title of its woke nature, given that diversity seems to be at the heart of this game — as evident in the reveal trailer and post Space Monkey dev streams.
Back on November 13th, 2019, beyondgoodandevil.ubisoft.com hosted a stream showcasing a variety of possible pirate concepts, showing off a range of ethnicities and species, different cultural influences, and sci-fi touches that include futuristic prosthetics and the like. Of course, social justice lingo fills the following video at the given timestamp:
Aside from custom characters and diversity, the game itself is about making a name for yourself in a new era of piracy, exploring space, fighting in star-vessels in and out of orbit coupled with underground racing, and close-quarters third-person action.
Anyway, Beyond Good and Evil 2 will likely end up on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X. The exact release date is unknown, but the game will launch sometime after early 2021.
