Sakura Wars is set to launch a month from now on April 28th and has revealed the various editions and their perks along with the romance mechanics in-game. Though Sega isn’t committing the sin of store-specific versions many consumers may find their edition strategy to be in poor taste, while others are sure to praise it.
Frankly, while it is a nice sight to see digital purchases finally get some reward over physical, it is sad that physical backers are limited in what they receive as well. Those who pick up the game will be forced on day one to pay for the additional DLC for a game they’ve already bought if they opt to grab a physical copy. That not so much a rewards early adopters but punishes them for not buying a specific version of the game.
Fortunately, the unveiled romance and conversation mechanics offer a nice level of brevity compared to the typical scroll and select or wheel mechanics featured in many western releases. Showcased alongside curvaceous characters featuring likable personalities and the occasional dramatic over the top reactions. A likable cast of actors in a mech fighting JRPG theater troupe.
