Xbox boss Phil Spencer, in a recent interview, notes that the Xbox Series X’s launch is still on target during this pandemic, but launch titles may not release on time. This information comes from a new report covering Spencer’s thoughts on next-gen launch titles.

We all know that Halo: Infinite will be one of the first new titles to launch on the Xbox Series X. Although other games for the holiday 2020 device aren’t known yet, they might not release on time in Q4 of this year.

I should note that cnbc.com is known for pushing out untrustworthy news — much like any other mainstream media outlet. However, videogameschronicle.com picked up on the same info, adding some weight to the former outlet’s story.

With that said, Spencer made mention during the interview that the Xbox Series X is still on track despite the current pandemic going on. This means the console in question is still due out for a late 2020 release:

“Microsoft executive vice president of gaming and head of Xbox Phil Spencer said coronavirus won’t impact when Microsoft launches its next-gen game console.”

The above information isn’t anything new. We’ve reported on the Xbox Series X still tracking as first announced, but what is new is that both publication sites make mention of launch titles potentially arriving later due to the coronavirus.

In addition to the above, the two sites cite Spencer saying the following:

“I’d say the bigger unknown is probably the game production. Game production is a large scale entertainment activity now, you have hundreds of people coming together, building assets, working through creative.”

Interestingly, videogameschronicle.com also captured John “Unyshek” Junyszek — Halo community manager at 343 Industries — saying something similar about Halo: Infinite back in March of this year:

“We’re removing all the obstacles in our path and tracking well, but need to be mindful of our current limitations and understand that the coronavirus situation may get worse before it gets better. Rest assured that every single one of us is doing everything in our power to continue developing and delivering quality Halo experiences while we adjust to this new way of life.”

Time will surely tell what will go down when the fourth quarter rolls around, but in the meantime, the Xbox Series X is still set to release this holiday season.
