The Blackout, Russian Sci-Fi Flick Puts A Dark Spin On An Alien Invasion

Shout! Factory’s The Blackout: Invasion Earth is an upcoming Russian sci-fi flick where an invading force who has been living among the humans, biding their time and waiting for the right moment to strike, use a global blackout to wipe out humanity.

The two-minute trailer for the film actually looks so much better than it has any right to, but the only downside to it all is that in an attempt to hide that it’s a Russian sci-fi flick, they used some awful American dubbing to convey the plot of the film.

Like most commenters mentioned on the trailer page, it would have made more sense to just use subtitles and keep the native Russian dialogue.

Anyway, the film looks pretty cool, as it follows an elite force attempting to maintain control of the last stronghold on Earth, conveniently located in Moscow, Russia. You can check out the trailer below, courtesy of Movie Trailers Source.

The plot seems interesting enough, and the vehicle designs and set pieces seem pretty cool. In an alternate timeline this would have made for a great AAA third-person shooter on home consoles and PC, with split-screen co-op, cover-fire, and online PvP and horde modes. But sadly the Western gaming industry is converged, and it’s no longer possible to look forward to purchase fun games from AAA publishers.

But that’s also probably one of the best parts about the trailer: it’s not pozzed.

The only prominent female we see in the trailer is attached to a press group, which is how it would be in real life, and all the main characters are depicted with racial accuracy.

It’s sad that you constantly have to be on the look-out for this kind subversion, but so far Russia and China are doing their best to avoid succumbing to the degeneracy known as “diversity”.

You can look for The Blackout to arrive courtesy of Shout! Factory starting June 2nd.
