Facebook is further eliminating any dissenting voices against the established narrative surrounding any of the coronavirus coverage. The latest victim of their censorship targeting is The Unz Review, an independent news organization that sometimes shares provocative and uncomfortable perspectives on mainstream (and not so mainstream) news coverage. Apparently their opinion about the coronavirus potentially being used as a cover for possible top Iranian assassinations was too much of a query for Facebook to accommodate, and so the entire Facebook page was banned.
They did an article about the ban back on May 1st, 2020, with Ron Unz explaining…
“My morning newspapers had recently mentioned Facebook’s plans to crack down on misinformation related to our ongoing Covid-19 epidemic, and probably like most other readers I just nodded my head. After all, many Americans might die if cranks or pranksters began promoting highly dubious cures to the deadly disease, perhaps even suggesting that people should inject themselves with Lysol to ward off an infection.
“However, those bland public statements took on an entirely different meaning yesterday afternoon when I discovered that all material from The Unz Review had suddenly been banned for alleged violations of “community standards” and our own Facebook page eliminated.”
Now it’s not verified that it was exactly the coronavirus coverage that resulted in the ban, but Unz highly suspects that it was the growing popularity of the article published on April 21st, 2020 titled “American Pravda: Our Coronavirus Catastrophe as Biowarfare Blowback?”
If you attempt to visit their Facebook page you’re met with the above message.
This kind of crackdown isn’t surprising given that we’ve seen Facebook ramping up their measures against what they’re calling “misinformation”, “inauthentic behavior” and “platform manipulation”. They recently banned QAnon groups, pages, and users who associated with the movement.
Now it looks like they’re targeting anyone outside of mainstream sharing opinions that don’t align with the narrative they’re trying to convey to the populace.
