OtherSide Entertainment announced that Tencent was helping out with System Shock 3 back on May 20th, 2020. Weeks later, after the recent announcement, we now have a community manager at OtherSide Entertainment claiming that the company is still involved with System Shock 3’s development.
Multiple companies like Platinum Games and Marvelous try to ease angry fans into accepting the Chinese mega-corporation by saying that Tencent is a “hands-off company that will help with expenses,” which is something that OtherSide Entertainment is now saying.
And speaking of Platinum Games and Marvelous, OtherSide Entertainment is also claiming that it will still have creative control when it comes to making System Shock 3 with Tencent’s help.
The above information comes from website videogameschronicle.com. The website tracked down a new message published this weekend where OtherSide Entertainment’s community manager, Alyssa Marshall, had the following to say when asked about the company’s involvement with System Shock 3:
“We are still involved, but we can’t speak on it much further than that at this point in time. As we are allowed to make more information public, we will do so.”
The quote in question reveals that System Shock 3 is being backed by Tencent, but the devs claim that they still have control when it comes to the game’s development. However, we’ll hear more about OtherSide Entertainment and Tencent’s partnership in the foreseeable future.
With all of that said, it goes without saying that Asia’s second-biggest company by market value, Tencent, has over 800 studios relying on it. Here’s the current list of known companies that Tencent has a stake in as of 2020:
