The next Battlefield game (often referred to as Battlefield 6) is currently in development for current and next-gen consoles. However, some tidbits have surfaced from new reports on what gamers and fans alike can expect from the next entry in the Battlefield series of games.
Last month, we reported on how Roger Collum (a former lead producer on Fortnite Save the World) has been working at DICE Stockholm for four months. Additionally, we also covered Collum saying how folks have not seen the best of DICE yet since the next Battlefield game will be the highlight of the company:
“I believe that the best of DICE is yet to come. DICE is a world class studio with a world class reputation of making the highest quality immersive experiences gamers have ever seen.”
As of today, Tom Henderson — owner and CEO of Viral Junkie — posted a random thread on Twitter detailing some things regarding the next Battlefield game. Later on, prominent leaker and social justice warrior Jeff Grub chimed in to support Henderson’s predictions on the work of EA and DICE, which you can read right here:
The next Battlefield title will be on both current gen and next gen consoles, with a small amount of people working on a feature-limited version for current gen. This could explain why Battlefield V support has ended (it’s heads down time for the next title).

With all “leaks”, take with a pinch of salt, but the source of this one is… pic.twitter.com/TxhVaM35zu

If you can’t read or see the tweets, the next Battlefield’s setting will be in modern time as per Grub. Releasing for PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS5, and Xbox Series X, the forthcoming first-person shooter will have a small number of people working on a “feature-limited version” for current-gen consoles.
The thread of tweets makes mention of the current and next-gen versions requiring different technology and thus creating a “feature-limited version.”
Aside from that, EA and DICE are working on a new version of Frostbite. The current version of the game engine is Frostbite 3. However, the tools to improve said engine will be upgraded as per ea.gr8people.com:
Frostbite: Tools Software Engineer
The Tools Software Engineer will design and implement the proper functioning of the tools that will develop the potential of the engine and help improve the efficiency of the production team. Collaboratively working to achieve high-quality cross-platform products.
In the meantime, the next Battlefield game will release sometime in 2021 for current and next-gen consoles such as the PS5 and Xbox Series X. Also, keep in mind that Electronic Arts is currently on the Traitors of America master list.
