Are you a fan of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night? If so, the game might turn into a long-running series as per Koji Igarashi during a recent interview with Famitsu. Moreover, gamers and fans alike might see a new IP from Igarashi moving forward.
Firstly, the following translation comes from website nintendoeverything.com, which highlights key sections of the interview that Igarashi took up with Famitsu not too long ago. With that said, the Japanese news outlet asked Igarashi the following question:
Famitsu: It’s been a five year journey since the Kickstarter campaign. Where does Ritual of the Night stand for you among the games you’ve worked on?
The mind behind Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night responded by saying that he has to go “all in” to make said title into a series, so expect something with some effort put into it when announced:
Igarashi: I’ve made a lot of games in my life, but this is the first one I really got serious on since I left major companies behind me. So this is one of the most important games I’ve ever made. We’ve sold over one million copies now, so I’ve really got to go all out if I want to turn this into a series.
Questioning Igarashi about reaching the 1 million sales mark, the Famitsu interviewer wanted to know if this allows Igarashi to think about a sequel, prequel, or trilogy.
Famitsu: So now that you’ve reached the one million mark, you’re allowing yourself to think about turning it into a series?
Igarashi’s response lies below:
Igarashi: You got it. I really want to take my time and do things right, though.
Veering the conversation over a little bit, the interviewer wanted to know if Igarashi will create a brand new IP sometime in the foreseeable future since he made mention of doing so earlier:
Famitsu: But didn’t you say before that you wanted to make something brand new, as well?
Acknowledging the interviewer, Igarashi’s greatest aspiration is for ArtPlay to become a company that has many games under its belt and not just one title:
Igarashi: I did. My greatest aspiration is for ArtPlay to become a company that has several irons in the fire, not just one. Ritual of the Night could be one of our main foundations – especially if we keep the series going and we do it well. Then we can have another game with the same amount of integrity behind it at the same time.
The last question that the Nintendo-based website translated revolves around Famitsu wanting to know if Igarashi made a new IP, what would that new thing look like at launch. The answer lies below:
Igarashi: I think a lot of my accumulated expertise went into the making of Ritual of the Night, so I’d like to make something a little more challenging if I were to create something brand new.
Lastly, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is out now across PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch.
