The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind:
Look, I know Skyrim is the greatest-selling blockbuster game, and I’ve even argued that Oblivion is the most OK Elder Scrolls game ever, but like Pokemon Red and Blue, it’s impossible to deny the effect of Morrowind and how it permanently altered our expectations for the breadth of an RPGs games.
Even though Morrowind is regarded as one of the first contemporary open-world RPGs games, few games that have come after it has come close to matching the game’s visual inventiveness and narrative, which is why it’s so surprising. The character- and world-building capabilities of Morrowind make it easy to overlook the game’s flaws while playing through the game’s campaign.
