Hitting Steam Early Access on April 22nd, the Stardew Valley-like game WAYWARD is now available for folks to scavenge and survive in. Although Unlok’s game might be a little overwhelming, players will be able to learn the basics to survive in the PC game WAYWARD, thanks to a few helpful guides floating around.

Pretty much like the old game Survival Kids, WAYWARD will require lone survivors to craft, farm and hunt down food to survive after a disastrous shipwreck that plunged the character that player assume on a mysterious island. Before jumping into the guide, you can read a quick run-down of the overall beginning event.

“You awake to discover yourself no longer in the company of good men or a fine seafaring vessel. Treasure… you remember something about treasure. Wayward is a turn-based, top-down, wilderness survival roguelike. Explore, build, and most importantly survive in these unforgiving lands.”

Before we start off, for a comprehensive guide you can check out the game’s official overall summary, or you can see the item summary and how much it takes to build/make things.

Once in the game, your weapon or item that you spawn with will be completely random. Sometimes it will be an axe, shovel or something else, but it’s most important to equip the random item by clicking on “Inventory” in the top right and giving it to your character.

You will also start with a Bedroll so that you can rest. Simply double-click on it or use it from the quick hotbar to rest. This will make your character rest for a number of turns, with the minimum of turns being 50, while 300 at night. The number of turns increase with Camping skills higher.

Looking over to the Crafting mechanic — you’ll find it in the top right corner of the screen, and it can also be accessed through the second to last window (entitled Equipment) out of the three. Upon hovering over an item, you will see a nice description of it so that you can either build an item, weapon or some other device.

Upon left-clicking the item’s icon in the crafting menu, you will be able to make whatever you are trying to make. This will also consume Stamina, and will also change-up with its recipe. With that said, do not click too fast or you will keep failing, unless the required items stay the same.

You can also place armor or other craftable items and equipment in the second window or equipment slot, which can also help with farming items. In addition, if you have a sharp object like a sword or something, you can cut down cactus plants or other objects. This also works on dead creatures, which you can use to make stuff like fur or food.

It’s worth noting that your weapons and items have durability, so if they break you will either need to repair them or make a new version.

Lastly, you can also repair items by heading to the brown mountainous terrain to find a chunk of Sandstone to craft it into Grindstone. Place the item to be repaired on the ground in front so that it’s facing you, and then use the Grindstone or you can use a hammer.
