No Man’s Sky Delayed To August 9th

Hello Games’ Sean Murray broke the news recently that No Man’s Sky on PS4 and PC has been delayed to August 9th in North America, August 10th in Europe, and August 12th for the rest of the United Kingdom.

The news was posted up over on the official PlayStatoin Blog, where Murray explained…

“[…] we realized that some key moments needed extra polish to bring them up to our standards. I have had to make the tough choice to delay the game for a few weeks to allow us to deliver something special.”

Majority of the comments at the bottom of the page are supportive of Murray and the crew for taking the extra time to delay No Man’s Sky and polish it up before release. That age old saying just doesn’t go away: You only get one chance at a first impression, so don’t screw it up.

Previous to Murray making the announcement, various other websites had reported that No Man’s Sky for PS4 and PC would be delayed, as reported by Niche Gamer.

The barrage of news surrounding the delay had some gamers thinking that it would be pushed back as far as this fall, but as Murray assured gamers in the post above, the delay has only moved the game out of its June slot and into August. Expect one last big promotional push at this year’s E3 during the Sony press conference to remind gamers that No Man’s Sky will launch in August.

It’s a largely ambitious game, so the delay is completely unsurprising. In fact, I would have expected it to be delayed even further given how much content is jammed into the game and how many planets and solar systems can be visited. It’s an impressive feat for a small indie team, no doubt. Also, expect plenty of clones to pop up if the game manages to sell on a Minecraft or GTA tier.

As mentioned, No Man’s Sky is due to drop on August 9th in North America, and a couple of days thereafter throughout the rest of the world.
