The Other 99 Early Access Delayed To August 25th

Burning Arrow and Deck13 Interactive recently announced that they will be delaying The Other 99‘s Early Access release by more than a month.

Originally the game was scheduled to release next week on Steam Early Access, but they wanted the extra month to polish the game up before putting it out there for public consumption. They’re also taking a lot of feedback and making some modifications for a solid release in August.

Additionally, Burning Arrow is taking media appointments for when they make a stop at this year’s GamesCom. They have plans on demonstrating the game at the event in Cologne, Germany, giving gamers and press alike an opportunity to experience the story-driven, survival game firsthand.

So what is The Other 99? It’s a game where players take on the role of an individual who has been abducted and thrown onto an island with nothing but the clothes on their back and the wits in their head. Players will have to scavenge the island for food and shelter, as well as survival supplies and items needed to craft weapons.

Players will then have to find a way off the island by surviving against all odds, and against the other 99 people trapped on the island. Some of them will be helpful, some of them will be dangerous, all of them want to survive.

The game was inspired by Kinji Fukasaku’s Battle Royale, a movie about kids trapped on an island, attempting to kill each other off in order to be the last one remaining. The concept is the same here. Players will attempt to either go in fist-a-blazing, killing any and every other person they come across, or they can play stealthy and attempt to observe the other 99 before taking action.

The concept and premise are pretty cool, especially given that this is a single-player, story-driven game as opposed to the multiplayer deathmatch approach that so many other Battle Royale Knockoffs have taken.

You can look to get your hands on the game in Early Access starting next month, on August 25th. The Steam store page is currently live right now but you won’t be able to purchase the game until a month from now.
