Ashes Of The Singularity Beginner’s Guide

Stardock Entertainment’s Ashes of the Singularity, the DirectX 12 real-time strategy game, has officially exited from beta and Early Access and launched for PC in full. For a lot of gamers that may have been interested in the title but aren’t very familiar with how RTS games work, there’s a walkthrough guide for that.

YouTuber Sergiu Hell Dragoon HQ did a near half-hour video guide for beginners to give them a basic rundown of how to play the game and how to take advantage of some of the basic features in the title. You can check it out below.

In the video the single-player option is selected on a basic map just to get an understanding of how the game is played.

You start with a main base and some starter resources. In the video above it’s suggested that a good way to expand your territory and get some ground resources established is to build a couple of factories from the production category. Once the factories are finished you can build some land units for combat purposes.

Later in the video he creates multiple ground factories in order to spam ground units since the unit cost is fairly cheap. It’s explained that the actual limit of how many units a player can have in their army is determined by the Quanta limit. By generating Quanta you can upgrade your units and unit count.

Next up, he uses a robot to construct metal extractors for the additional metal resources.

Now in order to unlock the next set of buildings to make use of the radioactive properties, you have to place a radioactive extractor over the radioactive points to extract the resources that can then be used to turn into radioactive power generators.

In the video above, he generates a few ground units – such as the tanks – to scout out the first radioactive node, which is defended by a few enemy units. It’s noted that each of the neutral points will likely be defended by enemy NPCs, so you will have to battle them to take over that point. It’s also possible to win the game by acquiring enough points, and you can even do so without even having to battle the main antagonist (which could be an AI opponent or a player).

Once you take over a radioactive node you can then begin to build extractors over captured radioactive nodes.

Once you get radioactive energy you can proceed to build more advanced factories to build Dreadnaught class units and other more devastating units.

According to the video, the early part of establishing dominance is getting enough resources to spam ground units early enough until you can get the radioactive factories up and running.

After establishing working factories and extractors over a certain area, it’s imperative to setup guard patrols and units to keep watch over the points of interest.

It might be best to upgrade the patrol units with weapon range and armor defenses so that they’ll be able to tank through attacks from opposing forces.

So basically, you can sum up the core of the gameplay as: taking over resource nodes. Fighting over the nodes with your own units. Upgrading units to better protect the nodes. Unlocking new units after extracting the resources from the nodes.

It follows a similar paradigm to other RTS titles, only the concept is centered a bit more on exploration and playing “guard the flag” over the resource nodes and ore/resource extractors.

Ashes of the Singularity is available right now on participating digital distribution outlets for PC. For more info feel free to visit the official website.
