Capcom has sent out a letter explaining that its Vancouver studio has been hit by a layoff. The Vancouver studio is the same as the Dead Rising studio, which is the team that made Dead Rising 4 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
Whatever your thoughts happen to be about Capcom and Dead Rising 4, the truth behind it all is that Capcom has laid off 30% of the Vancouver studio. The studio in question mainly ships out games like Dead Rising titles and Puzzle Fighter.
According to a letter that a Capcom representative provided to IGN, it discloses the laying off of people at the Vancouver studio, and what the company plans to do in the future:
“Capcom Vancouver has undergone a restructure which has impacted approximately 30 percent of the studio, as part of its regular periodic assessment of upcoming projects and overall studio goals. The team is continuing to work hard to support the recent release of Puzzle Fighter for mobile and is dedicated to its flagship Dead Rising series.”
If you don’t know Capcom Vancouver was once Blue Castle Games, but turned into a studio of Capcom after an acquisition in 2010. According to the letter, Capcom Vancouver wants to continue the Dead Rising series of games due to it being “dedicated to its flagship”.
In addition to the above, there’s no telling if there will be a Dead Rising game after the fourth title. If Capcom makes another game that performs like Dead Rising 4, there could be another round of layoffs.
On the topic of Dead Rising 4, the 2016 game launched for PC and Xbox One, and later released for PS4 in late 2017. The true question is, would you like to see a new Dead Rising game after Dead Rising 4 or should Capcom take a break and get itself together before shipping another one?
