Vampyr Delayed To Spring, 2018 After Team Encounters Technical Issue

Dontnod Entertainment sent out word that Vampyr has been delayed well into spring of 2018 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The action-RPG centered around a doctor who is infected with vampirism during a time of plagues and impoverishment circulating London, England, was originally going to be released sometime this year but plans have changed.

In a message from the CEO of Dontnod, Oskar Guilbert, he explains…

“Delaying the release of a project you hold dear is always a tough decision. However, we believe that meeting a deadline should never compromise quality. We were still convinced just a few weeks ago that we would be able to release Vampyr this year. Unfortunately, a technical issue – now solved – has set our teams’ schedule back at the end of the development.

“This delay allows us enough time for all the polishing and balancing phase, much needed for a game of Vampyr’s scope, with its ambitious, semi-open world, its complex narrative and deep RPG mechanics that give players a real impact on the world.”

Guilbert thanks Focus Home Interactive for the opportunity to delay the game all the way into spring of next year, where it’ll be facing off against other heavy hitters like God of War for the PlayStation 4 and Crackdown 3.

The game itself could go either way. It has an interesting premise but the gameplay is nothing to write home about. The ability to kill any of the residents makes it interesting but the color-starved palette and drab aesthetics does little to entice.

The setting of early 20th century London is pretty cool, though. There’s a mix of different weapons that will be at the player’s disposal as they explore the sick-ridden streets of the crowded urban setting where the Spanish Flu has set about dwindling the population at a rapid rate.

They’ve still yet to showcase any defining moments of the game in the available trailers that makes it look must-have, but they now have several more months to correct-course and potentially build up some hype for the game.
