Marvel’s Avengers Editorial Director Says Character Models Will Be Polished

The latest video game hoping to ride on the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is Square Enix, Crystal Dynamics, and Eidos Montréal’s Marvel’s Avengers. The upcoming game is no stranger to controversy in that many fans have stressed their discontent over generic-looking gameplay and unpleasant character models. Well, it seems the higher-ups working on the forthcoming game will “handle” the latter issue.

That’s right, character models will see some form of improvement, although I wouldn’t hold my breath on anything substantial coming out of this change, though.

According to Marvel’s Avengers editorial director, Casey Lynch, character model improvements are underway and will continue in future updates.

Thanks to website gamingbolt.com, excerpts from Lynch’s interview sit below for your reading pleasure:

“Everything about the game is going to continue to change as we polish, as we approach launch right now, but things that we’ve shown both at E3 and here, it’s all been pre-alpha. There’ll be changes to everything from the characters to a lot of what you see.”

In other words, characters continuing to look better is supposedly a top priority as the devs get closer to launch. However, the team will not change character designs:

“By changes, we’re talking about polish. What we’re doing is we are continuing to add detail to their character models, we’re improving the lighting, we’re improving the skin shading. So, what you’re hopefully seeing is the characters continuing to look better as we get closer to launch. But in terms of changing character designs, that’s not currently what we’re looking at.”

The important question that remains unanswered is, will The Marvel’s Avengers game continue to look like a sad parody of some sorts with knock-off cosplayers pretending to be the iconic characters from the comics mashed in with a cheap version of the MCU? Or will they look better moving forward?

Given that Black Widow’s face is purposely squared despite in the new trailer looking a “bit” rounded due to lighting techniques tells me that we’ll see ugly to mediocre-looking character updates in the foreseeable future.

The upcoming action-adventure game developed by Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montréal and published by Square Enix is to hit PC, PS4, and Xbox One on May 15th, 2020.
