Intellivision is coming back to the console fold with a new retro console called the Intellivision Amico. It features an HDMI display ouput and multiple USB ports so you can connect multiple devices to it. The pearl and paled turquoise livery sets it apart from the other retro consoles out there, along with the addition of two multi-directional control devices themed after the original Intellivision design.

The company sent out a four minute promotional video highlighting the new console, which will play a lot of the classic Intellivision action, sports, and miscellaneous games that came out back in the 1980s.

The device sportys Wi-Fi support for online play, along with the two wireless controllers that connect via Bluetooth. Instead of being a traditional control pad, the devices have a touchscreen along with four buttons – two on each side of the controller – offering tactile feedback. Much like the Steam controller there’s also gyroscope and accelerometer controls as well.

A large portion of the video is based around all of the functionality tucked within the controller, including rumble functionality, and built-in speakers. Apparently you’ll also be able to use the controllers to communicate with other players online because they have microphones built in as well.

When you’re done playing with the controllers you can recharge them by plugging them back onto the console itself, which supports onboard qi charging.

You can also use smarpthones to connect to the Intellivision Amico through a controller app you can download for your phone.

After the halfway point in the trailer we learn that all the games will be priced between $2.99 and $7.99 and will be rated ‘E’ for Everyone. It also promises that none of the games will have microtransactions or in-app purchases, which seems like a tall order for developers given the heavy push from top publishers for live services within games.

Majority of the library will be based on the old Intellivision and Atari classics remade with updated audio and visuals made exclusively for the console. They’re also promising 20 brand new games when the Amico launches.

So when will the Intellivision Amico launch? They’re gunning for an October 10th, 2020 release date. So it’ll be another two years before you see it out and about for purchase.
