ARK Aberration Guide: How To Tame Roll Rats, Shinehorns And Find Oil

Need help finding and taming the Roll Rat and Shinehorn in ARK Aberration? Looking to find oil or build working elevators too? This guide aims to do just that, which Studio Wildcard’s survival game is out now for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

For starters, to tame a Roll Rat you must find honey from a beehive. To locate a beehive you must head to 48 latitude and 24 longitude and search the surrounding area.

Once you’ve found a beehive and some honey, find a Roll Rat and wait for it to dig a hole in the ground and throw your honey in your tenth slot into the hole. This act should tame the creature. You can watch Mitt Gaming tame the Roll Rat right here.

Next up is the Shinehorn animal. To tame a Shinehorn you must have a Species Z seed or Aggeravic Mushroom in your tenth slot. Simply walk over to the creature and press the interact button to tame it while having one of the two, and that’s all there is to taming the creature.

The Shinehorn can detect enemy players and NPCs, and doubles over as a shoulder mounted light source by petting it (toggles on and off). Mitt Gaming has the usual stuff below.

Need oil? You can get oil from four different methods, but one out of the four methods is the most easiest setup and produces a fairly decent amount of oil… but quite slow, though. You need to tame a Dung Beetle with dung, and give it more dung so that it can produce oil in a small but spacious pin every 15 minutes.

You can see the other three methods to get oil thanks to Mitt Gaming.

As a bonus and standing to be the last guide on this list comes elevators. Work up to level 20 and you should gain access to three wood material blueprints. The three things will be essential to make working elevators.

Depending on how big you want your platform on the elevator to be depends on if you want to get to level 23 (medium) or level 30 (large).

To build the various parts that make up the elevator you will need: Fiber, Fungal Wood, and Metal Ingot. It should be noted that you will need a lot of the three named materials if you want to see this project through.

As always, the quick visual guide comes in courtesy of Mitt Gaming.
