Capcom took the Monster Hunter franchise from the handheld 3DS scene and pushed it into the home console realm with Monster Hunter World. They managed to move 5 million units in shipment and digital sales combined in three days. These numbers were achieved through PS4 and Xbox One, while a PC version is set to release this fall.
Whatever your thoughts are on Capcom or Monster Hunter World, there’s no denying that the game has moved 5 million in shipment and digital sales. All of this happened within three days on two platforms, which happens to be that of PS4 and Xbox One.
A PC version is set to release this fall, which led to some fans being disappointed that the PC version would be pushed back so far into 2018. The explanation behind the game’s PC version not dropping with its home console counterparts is due to the following points that producer Ryozo Tsujimoto shared:
“For the main Monster Hunter game, this is our first PC title and it’s something we want to make sure we get right. So rather than have it taking up resources during the console development and not it not being able to have our full attention on it. We want to get console out the door and then we’re going to take some extra time and try and get the PC version as good as possible.”
Tsujimoto continued on about why gamers and fans alike will have to wait for a PC version of said game by saying that…
“There’s extra work you need for PC as well. On console you use first party matchmaking, you just kind of plug into it, whether it’s PSN or Xbox Live, but on PC we’re going to have to work more to get our own matchmaking working. So, hopefully, PC users won’t mind waiting a little bit longer for us to bring you a really great optimised PC experience.”
Monster Hunter World also shipped without microtransactions or loot-boxes, something that both Tsujimoto and game director Yuuya Tokuda had discussed would not be in the game before it launched.
