HAL Laboratory Wants Next Kirby Game To Be Known As The “Pinnacle” Of Kirby Games

It looks like the heads at HAL Laboratory want the next Kirby game to be a pinnacle title, while others are looking to make a non-action spin-off adaptation of the pink cream puff. However it goes, we know that the devs have big plans for the future of Kirby thanks to a translation of a recent Famitsu interview.

Thanks to website nintendoeverything.com, we learn that in a recent issue of Famitsu, it features some of the devs from HAL Laboratory celebrating the studio’s 40th anniversary.

In addition to this anniversary, the Japanese magazine had the chance to talk with a few key devs behind the Kirby games such as lead action programmer Katsuyoshi Sumitomo, general director Shinya Kumazaki, and design director Riki Fuhrmann.

The publication site highlights a section of the Famitsu interview and covers how the devs discussed how Kirby Star Allies “raised the bar” for Kirby games.

From here, the interview touches on the devs future plans, where the three developers outline some interesting things regarding the future of Kirby.

With that said, the website in question shines the spotlight on Sumitomo talking about making the next Kirby game “the pinnacle” title:

“I really want the next thing we create to be called the pinnacle of Kirby games. I’m positive the Kirby series can become even more fun!”

Fuhrmann later chimes in and says that he wants to make a non-action spin-off within Kirby‘s realm:

“For me, personally, I’d really like to make a non-action Kirby spin-off game. …We’re going to have a wide variety of Kirby coming out in the future.”

Falling in line with Sumitomo’s sentiment, Kumamoto mentions of wanting to make the next game something that exceeds previous Kirby games:

“Each entry in the series has its merits, but I want to make something that exceeds previous games.”

So what can we take away from the above? Well, expect more Kirby in the future that will strive to top Kirby Star Allies while being a pinnacle installment in the ongoing series of said games — which will more than likely land on Switch.
