One Piece, Digimon Adventure Episodes Suspended Due To Coronavirus

Toei Animation announced that new episodes of One Piece and Digimon Adventure have been suspended due to the coronavirus. This means that new episodes will not be coming out due to the staff at the production studios being under quarantine, and thus work being halted on future content.

The news came via an announcement over on the official Toei Animation website, where they announced that it was all due to the state of emergency being declared in Japan over the COVID-19 pandemic. They explain…

“Due to the state of emergency in Japan caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we have carefully considered the safety measures for the spread and have decided to suspend the simulcast and Japanese broadcasting of both “One Piece” & our new series, “Digimon Adventure:” for the time being. Updates on the return of both series will be provided as soon as we know. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time. Please stay safe and healthy.”

Typically this means that one or more of the studios they relied on for content were impacted by the quarantine, and so to avoid being put under pressure of having to air so many episodes and then hit people with the news that the season won’t have any new episodes, Toei just decided to suspend both shows for the time being.

Other anime seasons are also undergoing similar issues, where they’re in the middle of broadcasting a season and some new episodes are being halted as production gets disrupted due to the pandemic.

Unlike some other series, however, Toei didn’t say when One Piece or Digimon Adventure would be returning, thus leaving it up in the air when the simulcast will return or when new episodes will air.

They also didn’t go into any details regarding the production status of both shows, and basically fans will have to stay tuned in to the official Toei Animation channels to find out more.
