Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Theatrical Premiere Postponed Due To Coronavirus

Another anime has been hit by the deadly embrace of Corona-chan. This time around the final entry in the Rebuild of Evangelion series has been hit: Evangelion: 3.0+1.0. The movie was originally supposed to release on June 27th, 2020, but now it’s been delayed indefinitely.

Anime Intelligence & Research spotted the news and informed English anime fans on April 17th, 2020.

There’s a nested tweet-quote from the official Evangelion account that further explains why they’re delaying the premiere, and what it means for fans.

The tweet links over to the official Japanese website, with the general message reading…

“[…] Due to the unprecedented situation in Japan and abroad caused by the spread of a new type of coronavirus infection (COVID-19), after careful consideration we have decided to postpone the release date of “Shin Evangelion The Movie”, which was scheduled to premiere on Saturday, June 27th, 2020.

“For those of you who have been looking forward to it, we have done our best to deliver the work as planned, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. […]”

The future of the movie’s release is still indeterminate, as there’s really no estimate on if or when things will go back to a point where public events will no longer pose a health risk to people.

For now they only mention – like many others have mentioned – to stay tuned in with the official website for news and updates on when the movie will premiere.

As we’ve seen from multiple other announcements for highly anticipated releases, such as Princess Principal and Violet Evergarden. Anime series such as No Guns Life and Diary of Our Days at the Breakwater have also been impacted with delays. It doesn’t appear as if the Corona-chan train will be slowing down any time soon either.
