NieR: Automata Surpasses 4.5 Million Sales

YoRHa 2B and her beautiful rear-end continues to make headway in the sales department for Square Enix and Platinum Games, managing to move a total of 4.5 million units since releasing back in February of 2017.

The news was made available over on the Japanese PlayStation blog, where they announced that both physical and digital sales have surpassed 4.5 million as of March, 2020.

That’s 500,000 more units than what NieR: Automata had moved since June of 2019.

If the game continues to move over 500,000 units each year then that’s quite an impressive feat. It means that it’s still maintaining a steady and healthy market presence despite being three years old.

The game gained a lot of attention initially for 2B’s curvaceous figure and her Gothic-lolita getup, but it was the game’s philosophical themes, solid gameplay, unforgettable soundtrack, and heart-wrenching story that really captivated gamers.

However, Square and PlatinumGames shot themselves in the foot by not providing better support for the PC version of the game.

Anyone who picked up a copy knows about the trials and tribulations many face over on the Steam store, and yet neither company has dedicated any resources to fixing the problem. This is all despite the fact that out of those 4.5 million sales, more than 1 million of them belong to PC gamers, as noted by Steam Spy.

This news about the sales data for NieR: Automata follows closely behind Square announcing that NieR: Replicant is being updated and ported to the PS4, Xbox One, and on Steam for PC.

I’m sure many hope in vain that the game will receive better treatment on PC than Automata, just like I’m sure many hope in vain that Square’s Ethics Department won’t touch the game’s content in some way.

It would take a miracle for Square to do right by PC gamers and the series, but we live in Clown World and almost nothing is done proper these days.
