Intellivision Amico Trailer Previews 23 Upcoming Games

A new trailer was released for the Intellivision Amico, featuring 26 of the games scheduled to launch with the system when it drops later this year during the fall. Even while the coronavirus has been wrecking plans and wreaking havoc among most entertainment industries, Intellivision Entertainment is still scheduled to roll out the updated console come October 20th, 2020.

It’s a bold strategy, especially with the PS5 and Xbox Series X on the horizon, both of which are still scheduled to release this fall as well.

However, unlike the other two, Intellivision decided to focus their promotional campaign on the actual games instead of hardware specs and “diversity” and “inclusion”, buzzwords that have no actual value when it comes to enjoyable entertainment.

That being said, you can check out the gameplay compilation trailer below, which previews 23 different games.

The trailer is filled with a variety of different games that tackle different genres. There are Pong clones, Breakout clones, a Ski-Free-style game where you traverse down a mountain by completing slalom challenges or outrunning avalanches. There’s a Trials-style stunt-racing game that hearkens back to the Evel Knievel days, and a couple of sea sims involving sharks eating fish and performing underwater tricks for score.

A lot of the games are arcade-style mini-games of the isometric, side-scrolling, or overhead variety. Most of the racing games are like the slot car racers of old, and there’s also a healthy selection of shooters and platform-shooters. The one where you’re driving around on moon surfaces in what looks like the Mako from Mass Effect is pretty cool.

Now none of these games are going to be competing on the graphics front with heavy hitters on the PS5 and Xbox Series X, but that was never the intention of the developers from the start. They wanted to revive the Intellivision with classic local multiplayer games for the family, and that appears to be what the line-up offers.

It’s definitely aiming to fulfill a specific kind of niche. Whether or not they succeed is completely up in the air.

VIP pre-orders for the Intellivision Amico are set to go live on March 31st, 2020 in preparation for the October 20th, 2020 release. You can learn more about the Intellivision Amico by visiting the official website.
