Re:Zero’s Second Season Postponed To July Due To Coronavirus

The second season of Kadakowa’s Re:Zero – Starting Life In Another World has been postponed from its original air date, and is now scheduled to broadcast in July due to the impact on the economy and production studios by the coronavirus.

The Anime Intelligence and Research Twitter account spotted the news and relayed the message to anime fans on March 9th, 2020.

The tweet links to a message from the production committee who laid out the reasons for the delay on the official website.

The message reads…

“More than ever, thank you for supporting Re:Zero – Starting Life In Another World and allowing it to exist.

“April, 2020 was the originally scheduled broadcast date for Re:Zero – Starting Life In Another World‘s second season, but the global inconvenience brought about due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19), the production scheduled has been affected, and unavoidably this has resulted in the production being postponed.

“At present, July will be the newly scheduled release date for the broadcast due to the aforementioend reason. Details and particulars on the matter will be announced via the official website or Twitter account (@ReZero_Official) where you will be notified of any updates.”

The rest of the post thanks fans once again for supporting the series.

However, this is yet another anime being affected by the coronavirus.

Various other airings have also been affected, including Tsukiuta The Animation, Misfit of the Demon King Academy, A3!, and Doraemon: Nobita’s New Dinosaur to name a few.

Given how the virus continues to spread and wreak havoc on many Chinese production and manufacturing outfits, don’t expect the delays and deferrments to let up anytime soon unless Japanese companies bring their production commitments back to their country and keep them in-house, the way it should have been from the start.
