Sony Teases Into the Spider-Verse 2

[Correction:] Initially the article stated that it was “Enter the Spider-Verse 2” but it’s been corrected to “Into The Spider-Verse 2”.

[Original article:] Sony Pictures has begun teasing via twitter the upcoming announcement for Into the Spider-Verse 2.  Thus far fans have a flickering logo of the upcoming sequel depicting the detritus effects dimensions have on invaders. No other details were provided with the tease, but information about the movie has been floating around the internet for some time. Those hoping that Into the Spider-Verse 2 would continue the trend set by the original of avoiding the contentious politics that have increasingly plagued modern releases might be in for a massive disappointment.

Amy Pascal of the Ghostbuster 2016 infamy has been the producer and manager of the entire Spider-Verse saga from the animated movies to the live-action adaptations with Marvel. Following the success of the 2018 animated movie it appears that Pascal began taking a more active role in the development of the soon to be announced sequel and another woke spin-off that would focus on a predominately female cast led by Spider-Gwen.

The spin off title would see Spider-Gwen teaming up with Silk and another alternative female Spider-man by the name of Jessica Drew. Jessica Drew like many of the other female dominate marvel comics has seen her fair share of forced insertions into more popular lines followed by a short-lived solo outing. The female dominated movie has been penned by female writer Bek Smith in line with Amy Pascals female-driven agenda.

Some will argue, undoubtedly, that she was handed the writing role for her accomplishments, but a brief examination of her IMDB page shows no works worthy of earning her the responsibility of stewarding a Spider-Verse flick, nor has she had any active work since 2016.

According to Digital Spy Pascal said the story of Spider-Verse 2 would focus around Miles’ growing romance with Spider-Gwen.  While strongly utilizing the phase “Spider-People” Pascal goes on to describe the rest of the cast; fans can expect to see the return of Spider-Man Noir, Spider-Ham, Penni Parker, and the older Peter Parker along with Spider-Man 2099, along with the new addition of Spider-People such as Silk and Spider-Punk. There’s also going to be a Tom Holland appearance, now possible thanks to the new deal Sony and Disney inked.

Director Rothman let slip details on the story taking place two years after the events of the original movie. It will feature Kathryn Hahn as a female Doc Ock and Lauren Velez as Mile’s mother, both of whom will both play a more significant role in the movie than they did in the original.

“In the end, we found the movie played fine without us tagging every single possible thing, but we definitely think of Liv as someone who is not gone from the story, and who in many ways, is our most powerful bad guy,”

You heard that right, female super villain is more power than the Kingpin, regular Doc Ock, Task Master, The Green Goblin, and the symbiote. Say nothing of Norman Osborn when he’s dispatching villains to dispose of Spider-Man in certain series. All of them pale in comparison to the female Doc Ock who in the original movie paled in comparison to her cartoon male equivalent. The latter at the very least employed thermal and motion sensors as a basic security feature in all his lairs.

Call him paranoid, over cautious even, but Doc Ock knew how to prepare for a Spider-problem.

How fans who are tired of the over politicization of their escapism will react to more politicization of their escapism is to be seen. Amy Pascal is already moving on to Universal Pictures, so perhaps for the sake of all Spider-fans out there her influence on this movie will be limited to the damage already inflicted.
