Fans excitingly awaiting the release of Dying Light 2 in the jammed pack first-quarter of next year received some titillating news yesterday, as Techland tweeted out a teaser for the final expansion for the original game. Outside the expansion being a “Left 4 dead style” experience no other details were provided outside a hi-res screenshot showcasing four characters who are likely going to be the protagonists in the upcoming expansion.

Several outlets have struggled to even guess what the upcoming expansion will cover, but here at One Angry Gamer we actually play video games, so we have a pretty solid guess what the expansion will entail. Fans of the original Dying Light will know “The Following” left off on a cliffhanger that saw through certain means we won’t spoil for those who haven’t played “The Following” yet, but the outbreak expanded beyond the fictional Brazilian City of Harran.
Dying Light 2 picks up 15 years after the containment efforts failed and the Harran Virus spread through the entire world, eradicating the human population. As said in the tweet, this will be a Left 4 Dead-esque experience set in the Dying Light universe. Left 4 Dead chronicles the struggles of four survivors as they make their way through unending hoards of infected along the southern east coast of America before the sequel put players squarely in the south as the outbreak continued to spread.
While the expansion very well could use these same mechanics and theme for a prequel tail of the initial outbreak in Harran, it is far more likely that this expansion will bridge the gap between Dying Light 1 and Dying Light 2 giving players insight into how the outbreak spread beyond Harran and why the world failed to contain the virus after it broke quarantine.
Whatever eventually turns out to be the case, fans can look forward to the expansion when it drops. As stated earlier there is no other information available other than the one screenshot to tide players over till the eventual full announcement.
