Assassin’s Creed Chronicles Review

Assassin’s Creed Chronicles is a sequence of three 2D stealth platformers, with the first one being released in April this year. The game is set in three different cities; Delhi, Peking, and Moscow. Assassin’s Creed Chronicles India takes place during the time when Mohandas Gandhi was leading the non-violent resistance movement against the British occupation of India.

Assassin’s Creed Chronicles China takes place in the final days of the Ming Dynasty and follows Shao Jun, the last remaining Assassin of the Chinese Brotherhood, as she embarks on a quest to restore her fallen order.

Assassin’s Creed Chronicles Russia takes place in 1918 during the Russian Revolution and follows Nikolai Orelov as he tries to secure an artifact that has the power to end the Bolshevik Revolution prematurely.

The games are designed as side stories that loosely follow the main Assassin’s Creed storyline. The developers aimed to create a game that was “short and intense”, with each level taking around an hour to complete. The games also feature new gameplay mechanics such as “leap of faith” assassinations, where you can assassinate enemies by jumping off rooftops.

My Review On Assassin’s Creed Chronicles

Assassin’s Creed Chronicles is a decent game that introduces new mechanics to the series. It also breaks up the monotony of playing through sandbox cities by setting parts of the game in more linear levels with fewer side objects to distract you from your main objective.

I didn’t enjoy all three games equally though, as Assassin’s Creed Chronicles India felt extremely short compared to China and Russia, which took me two sittings each to complete. Another problem was that I felt t wasn’t enough stealth gameplay, as it seems like the combat system was made for bigger levels where there are more hiding spots rather than small cramped corridors.

My favorite level was definitely Russia, because it had many different level designs, including indoor areas and outdoor areas with different weather conditions, which made it more interesting to play. I also enjoyed the new “leap of faith” assassinations, as they added a sense of verticality to the game that was missing in India and China.

Overall, Assassin’s Creed Chronicles is a decent game that I would recommend to fans of the series, but I don’t think it’s worth buying if you’re only mildly interested in the series. The game is available on Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Assassin’s Creed Chronicles Comparison With Other Games

Assassin’s Creed Chronicles has a more modern and gritty art style when compared to Assassin’s Creed II. Assassin’s Creed Chronicles also has new mechanics such as “leap of faith” assassinations, while Assassin’s Creed II doesn’t feature any such mechanic.

Assassin’s Creed III is a sandbox assassin game with a large map to explore, while Assassin’s Creed Chronicles has a shorter length with linear levels. Assassin’s Creed III also has very different mechanics when compared to assassin’s creed chronicles, including combat, parkour, and ship battles.
