60 Seconds! Is A Game About A Family Surviving A Nuclear Holocaust

A new game has landed on Steam Greenlight called 60 Seconds!. It’s from developers Robot Gentlemen and it features a guy named Ted who has to survive in a bomb shelter after spending 60 seconds gathering up supplies… and his loved ones.

The game’s Greenlight description is rather morose sounding but the debut trailer is brilliant. As mentioned on the Greenlight page…

“With only 60 seconds left to impact, guide Ted in a mad, intense and action packed dash through his house in search of his family and useful supplies. Everything will be against you – time, your very own furniture, the house that’s different every time you play and the fundamental question – what to take with you and who to leave behind?”

From there, the game takes on a completely different tone as players will have to ration food, make some hard decisions and deal with random encounters during an atomic holocaust. It’s expertly summed up in the 1950s-style PSA trailer below.

The dark comedy has a very interesting premise to it. I like the mix of a sort of physics-based scavenging hunt at the beginning with the strategic survival elements that happen later on. I especially liked how Ted was running into the table and other objects attempting to gather supplies, it really adds a measure of desperation to the gameplay. It’s also such a creative way of mixing and fusing genres while dealing with the popular subject matter of survival and making hard choices during turbulent times.

As mentioned on the Steam page…

“We will be done with all the content by the end of March. Come April we will be busy doing some final tests and bugfixing. We are hopeful the game will be available soon after!”

I like what this game is doing and a lot of the comments mention how fresh the game looks, so if the gameplay matches the retro themes presented in the trailer then Robot Gentlemen could have an easy sleeper-hit on their hands.

If you like what you’re seeing you can give an upvote and a favorite to 60 Seconds! over on the Steam Greenlight page.
