Platinum Games and Activision’s Transformers: Devastation has received a lot of positive reviews from gamers for its take on the retrotastic G1 edition of Transformers. The hack-and-slash, third-person shooter isn’t very long but could prove to be difficult for some gamers who may not be used to Platinum Games’ fast-paced style of gameplay.
Thankfully, there is a complete gameplay walkthrough available, offering hints and tips on how to beat the bosses, as well as how to string together combos and get past various obstacles and challenges in the game. You can check out the full 19 video playlist courtesy of YouTuber FP Good game.
When fighting Devastator, be sure to steer clear of his attacks until he creates a mound on the ground. Use the mounds to leap up into the air and attack his upper body to do extra damage to him. While attacking his legs is easier, it doesn’t do as much damage as attacking his upper half.
For the Megatron fight, it’s a straightforward brawl, save for having to disable Megatron’s shield. You’ll need to drive fast and run into Megatron to perform a rush attack in order to disable the shield. Once the shield is down just pummel away on Megatron like some sort of foam-stuffed punching bag.
You can use the weapons you’ve acquired throughout the levels to either upgrade them in the synthesizer or use the T.E.C.H., feature to develop new gear for each of the Autobots. The crafting mechanic is pretty basic and is a mini-game that involves trying to get the sliding bar on the orange block on the slot to get a higher grade buff. You can equip the buffs in the empty T.E.C.H., slots for each of the characters.
If you want to use the T.E.C.H., feature you’ll need to spend your money to do so. As you earn more money you can spend more on T.E.C.H., to unlock higher grade items.
You can cycle through and give each character a single melee weapon, two weapons on the left and right slots, and a long range weapon on the bottom slot. Additionally, you can buy and sell weapons and items.
A lot of gamers really like the weapon variety offered in the game due to the fact that it gives the game a lot of replayability. The crafting and looting almost turns it into a Transformers rendition of Borderlands.
The game is only a few others long on the easier difficulty setting, so if you’re looking for a lengthy game you won’t really find it here. However, if fun is what you’re seeking, then it’s not a bad title. You will have to face several of the bosses over and over again throughout the game, so if you don’t mind that as well you might have fun with it.
Transformers: Devastation is available right now for the Xbox 360, PS3, PS4, Xbox one and PC.
