Xenia Xbox 360 Emulator Partially Runs Halo Reach

The Xenia Xbox 360 Emulator is still heavy under development, working as an open source project through Github. Nevertheless, the latest build of the emulator has been making some strides and it’s now able to run Halo: Reach at a decent enough frame-rate and get to the menu screen. Beyond that it’s all garbage.

DSO Gaming spotted the new update that was accompanied by a video from YouTuber TheOldSport. You can see where the intro works and the logos work and the fade into the menu works, but beyond that the game is just a mess running in the Xenia.

According to TheOldSport the PC running the emulator has an i7 4790K at 4ghz even and 8GB of RAM. It sports a GTX Titan on a 64-bit version of Windows 10. The frame-rate is actually pretty good and if the menus weren’t garbage then it would be hard to tell that the game was actually running via emulation.

The project is one of many open source projects being hosted on Github that involves emulating some of the more newer game systems. The Wii U emulator is coming along nicely, along with the PS3 emulator. It’s funny but they’re both further along than the original Xbox emulator.

As for the Xenia emulator, TheOldSport has a second video, featuring debugged content that allows viewers to hear sound samples, preview the music and see some of the images from Halo: Reach. You can check out the video below.

The Xenia project has a lot of potential. Anyone can join in and help move the whole thing along. Of course, they repeatedly make it known not to request or discuss illegal activity… I assume that means ISO requests and how to rip games for the emulator.

You can learn more about the community-driven project by heading on over to the official Xenia website.
