Call Of Cthulhu Screenshots Preview Lovecraftian Atmosphere

Focus Home Interactive released two new screenshots for their upcoming adventure horror game, Call of Cthulhu: The Video Game. It’s based on the pen and paper tabletop game from Chaosium that shares the same name.

The upcoming horror title will be for the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Players assume the role of a private investigator during the 1920s named Edward Pierce who heads to the mysterious Darkwater Island to find out what happened to discover what happened to Sarah Hawkins and her family who were mysteriously killed.

Just about anyone family with H.P. Lovecrafts Cthulhu mythos and universe will already know what lies in store in Call of Cthulhu, but that doesn’t make it any less scary when the razor sharp claws attached to the end of unearthly tentacles start ripping and shredding things (and flesh) to pieces.

The screenshots keep things tame, however, so you won’t be seeing any Eldritch horrors this time around. In fact, the screenshots are just a teaser for what’s to come. They give you a look at the HD parallax mapping (sorry no displacement mapping this time around) as well as two of the many locations that Edward will visit. Check them out below.

The two shots see Edward investigating the creepy looking docks and the equally creepy looking front gate of the Hawkins’ manor. One thing worth noting is that the artists did a fantastic job making the branches of the trees loom over Edward as if they were reaching out to grab him.

Players will engage in a third-person mystery adventure as they gather clues, examine evidence and investigate various locations. If you enjoy the Sherlock Holmes games then I don’t see why you wouldn’t take to the Call of Cthulhu title, especially if you enjoy horror games with a slow-build of tension and frights.

The game is being developed by the Focus Home Interactive regular Cyanide Studios. You can look to get your hands on Call of Cthulhu for the Xbox One, PS4 or PC sometime next year during 2017. For more info feel free to visit the official Cyanide Studios website.
