Back in September, 2015, Nintendo published and developed Super Mario Maker for the Wii U, which is a 2D side-scrolling platformer. Every so often the devs release new content for the game, and this time it includes the Ice Climbers Popo and Nana.
Anyone who’s played the newest Smash Bros., will know of them being cut, that is if you enjoy playing as the iconic Ice Climbers. If not, it won’t matter to you that much. But after getting cut and not showing up in the main roster, or as DLC, the two finally came back as costumes in another game.
From the looks of it, there won’t be an appearance from the big dangerous polar bear with his MLG sunglasses, but instead only Popo and Nana will make roster of costumes. It is nice to see them make a return, although they are now pixelated and not in the Smash arena anymore.
Like all cross-overs in Super Mario Maker, the two become one on pickup when the mystery box is hit. This allows any player to assume the role as the Ice Climbers, which they are now playable since it is May 12th, as of this writing.
You can check out the new stage that tags along with the iconic costume, which is showcased in a new video trailer below showing the new icy event course for Super Mario Maker.
Additionally, these two characters join the long plethora of event courses and costumes added to Super Mario Maker, providing a nice reason to jump back into the world of editing and running near impossible stages once more. And if you are like me and sorta miss the absence of the Ice Climbers in the new Smash Bros., now is the time to dust the snow off of them and take them into action again.
Super Mario Maker is out now for the Wii U, and received a new update on May 12th, letting folks run a new event course and play as a new costume.
