Rogue System, Manual Space Game To Hit Steam On May 16th

Do you like pressing and toggling switches manually? Do you also like piloting ships in space, and space fighting like in the old 32X game Shadow Squadron? If so, Image Space Inc. and Digits Crossed Interactive’s space sim Rogue System, seems to bring just that to the table. The space sim is set to release on Steam this May, on the 16th.

I like space, it’s a gigantic fabric of darkness that has a vast range of stories woven throughout it. There’s also giant gas planets and solids like Earth that float about in different galaxies holding their very own properties. However, if you want to travel space but in a science fiction setting, a new game entitled Rogue System will let you do just that in a spaceship, but it requires manual piloting…

“Rogue System’s goal is to bring the classic space-combat sims into the modern era of gaming at an unprecedented level of control. It blends the capabilities and usability of modern games with the detail and fidelity of hardcore combat flight-sims.”

The goal of the game is to bring space-combat and observation to the space table. This is all done with a simulated sci-fi realm, which features “richly deep spaceship management.” This means, every control, every panel and any button you see on your dashboard are usable. This is coupled with “intense combat” that accompanies the satisfaction of surveying and studying space.

For those that don’t like exploring without a purpose, the devs noted in the game’s official description that it will support an actual campaign mode with a story that is “both dynamic as well as scripted.” With that said, let’s face it, traveling a large spectrum like space can get a little boring if there’s nothing challenging those brain cells.

Furthermore, those thirsty for actual footage of the game can check out the original Kickstarter video that is on Micheal Juliano‘s YouTube channel. Although it’s old, it’s also followed by a somewhat more recent video detailing the controls and manual toggles that affect the ship.

As seen above, the space game doesn’t look that bad to be an indie game. If you want to see the video that is mentioned above, you can check out the full tutorial that teaches each control mechanism and what they do.

But that’s not all, there will also be full mod support for the game, making it fully moddable. This allows both the DCI and the community to add new ships, missions, campaign stories, and anything that comes to mind.
