From what it seems, a very well crafted indie game has hit Steam Greenlight and seeks to get through the voting segment. The game rocks the 16-bit look, with a side of adventure and action-RPG elements thrown into the mix. The game has players racing to a tower’s peak to obtain one wish, while battling a horde of enemies with fast-paced combat.
I’m assuming developer Faux-Operative Games isn’t alone in this project due to the description reading “we.” So with that said, their game seems to be like Heart Machine’s Hyper Light Drifter, and challenges players to battle a horde of spirit enemies that will soon fade from existence.
The basic story follows a place or beacon that attracts the souls who both lived and died with recklessness in their hearts. Though bound to this region that existed before the beginning of time, if they stay longer they will fade out of existence, and… I guess, die for good? However, they must get to a peak to gain one wish, which I’m sure any of the trapped reckless spirits will use to escape.
Looking over to gameplay mechanics, it plays out very close to Hyper Light Drifter with fast-pace movements and quick succession of putting down baddies with stylized moves. But, if you haven’t seen or heard of Heart Machine’s action adventure, the game features a very fast combat system that calls for players to utilize their environment to their advantage.
In addition, dual-wielding, using special magic and dodging will be essential among fast reaction to the mass cohort that will try to consume you. To get a nice glimpse of this very well crafted indie game, you can watch the trailer courtesy of Faux-Operative Games.
The 2D game, Ruin of the Reckless, will also feature a co-op mode so that you can hunker down with your buddy and smash more enemies quicker, if you can get along.
Lastly, there will be other power-ups to change how the game plays out adding more magical abilities with Spellbooks, Skill Orbs and Cards. For a full rundown on the game, or if you want to vote for Ruin of the Reckless, you can hit up Steam Greenlight.
