Death’s Gambit New Trailer Reveals Dark Souls-Like World But In 2D

I like the Souls games and Heart Machine’s Hyper Light Drifter, and it seems as if publisher Adult Swim and developer White Rabbit merged Dark Souls’ world, Hyper Light Drifter and Shadow of the Colossus together to make up Death’s Gambit, which is fine by me. The 2D action adventure game will be available for PC and PS4 sometime “soon.”

Climbing a giant sword in an attempt to stifle a tree corroded knight, or fighting an unworldly beast that hones special abilities can all be found in the Dark Souls-like 2D RPG — Death’s Gambit. To be honest, I don’t mind many games rocking the premise of Shadow of the Colossus or Dark Souls as long as the devs throw their own twist in there to make it unique and stand out.

It’s always cool to see something different that doesn’t revolve around zombies or cheap first-person horror games, which I think this game does well seeing how it’s literally like Dark Souls but in 2D. Moreover, there will be the typical brutal bosses, loaded with adventure and other things to make one’s journey to the end that more difficult.

You can watch the trailer below, which reveals quite a bit of gameplay features that Death’s Gambit will sport in the coming future, courtesy of PlayStation.

I think it’s worth noting that the main character looks very similar to our hero in Hyper Light Drifter: the helmet, the armor and everything else. I noticed this when looking up images and concept art for Death’s Gambit. Makes me wonder if Heart Machine’s devs are okay with this design? Well, however it goes, players can change the armor around so maybe it was a way of the devs paying homage to HM’s game.

Anyways, Death’s Gambit is set to come out for PC and PS4 with a release date of “soon.” For more information you can hit up deathsgambit.com.
