Koei Tecmo Reveals Two Toukiden 2 Trailers Showing Off New Weapons

Thanks to Gematsu, two new trailers showing off Toukiden 2’s weapons are now up and live, offering folks a chance to see the newly added “shield-sword” and “sword-whip.” The two videos come in by Koei Tecmo and Omega Force, the first of which runs for 30 seconds and the second clocking in at a minute. Toukiden 2 will be out for the PS Vita, PS3 and PS4 over in Japan on July 28th, while a playable demo for the game is out now in Japan.

I’m liking so far what Koei Tecmo and Omega Force have shown of Toukiden 2, the game reminds me a lot of Monster Hunter (especially the newer entries) and how players fight and maneuver around enemies. In addition to fighting enemies we get to see two new weapons enter the realm of Toukiden 2, which arrive in the form of a shield-sword and sword-whip melee set.

Getting a closer look at these weapons, the shield-sword is obviously made to deflect attacks while at the same time dishing out damage in a defensive style. The sword-whip offers a tactical response to various battle situations, and looks to be flexible with big or small FOEs, providing long distance and close quarters damage sporadically.

You can view both trailers below courtesy of Koei Tecmo, which the first shows the shield-sword in action against a giant crab-like creature, with the second continuing the battle with said monster but with the sword-whip taking the spotlight.

I’m also liking the music in this game, it sorta reminds me of Nobuo Uematsu’s work in Lost Odyssey, which is a good thing since he does a great job creating wonderful pieces.

As of now there hasn’t been any word on a western release, but the JRPG is slated to debut over in Japan for the PS Vita, PS3 and PS4 on July 28th, while a playable demo for the game is currently live over in Japan.
