Gloria Victis, MMORPG Set To Hit Steam Early Access On June 8th

It’s nice to see indie devs stick to their small projects until they become big like Black Eye Games and its project Gloria Victis. It doesn’t mean that the game is fully polished or great-fantastic, but it does mean that folks will be able to play the sword clashing, 200-player, medieval-RPG very soon. It is shaping up pretty well and will be playable on PC via Steam Early Access on June 8th.

Originally a project that made it through Steam Greenlight, the game takes on the medieval genre of everyone wielding bow and arrows, swords, shields and so on. Like most games heading to Early Access, I expect this one to sport its unpolished problems and various issues. Not to sound negative or anything, but I imagine the devs are seeking to bring a nice mix of unique combat elements that mingle with other features, which might cause some problems.

Anyways, the game looks pretty nice to be made by a small group of devs and features some pretty nice looking graphics coming from Greenlight. Gloria Victis also seeks to provide more than just hacking and slashing, but some life skills added in too, so that the game has some depth to it. You can read the official description below.

“Gloria Victis is a MMORPG with an emphasis on realism, set in a low-fantasy medieval open world. Enjoy skill-based non-target combat, open PVP with territory control, deep crafting system and player-driven economy – all that served with beautiful graphics and immersive atmosphere.”

To get a better taste of the game, although old, the official trailer shows a nice amount of gameplay in the two-minute long video. You can watch it below thanks to GloriaVictisMMO.

Noted to feature a non-targeted combat system that is based on movement and predicting where your enemies’ weak spot will be when attacking, you will also be able to attack on mounts with lances and use archery on horses as well. Like most horses, they also double as quicker transportation than walking.

Speaking of transportation, boats and naval ships will also be available and can sail the seas to other locations to get to place to place quicker. And yes, this means that all out naval warfare is possible due to clans being able to form their very own armada.

The game will also sport open PvP, so no matter where you are an enemy could be there to attack you. This means anyone can attack anybody at anytime since it’s actually open PvP. From civil disputes to full on sieges, any dead enemy will also drop their equipment when searching them, so what’s theirs is now yours.

This also brings us to the crafting system that is said to be “complex.” Sharpening your mastery with more experience, crafting will grant you better weapons and armor since wolves and animals won’t drop any of that sort of stuff.

Lastly, we also learn that castles and forts can be built along with your very own personal house. Players will be able to decorate them and customize them to their liking, and can be conquered by other players during sieges and town raids.

As of this writing, the game will be playable in the next four days. This means that folks will be able to play it on PC via Steam Early Access on June 8th. According to the devs, the game will have a price tag on it during Early Access (unless that randomly changes), and will go free on full release.
