Perfect World and Cryptic Studios have announced that the free-to-play MMO, Neverwinter, will make the leap from PC and Xbox One to PS4.
Over on the PlayStation Blog Perfect World’s communications manager Alex Monney revealed that the game would be making the leap to Sony’s console this summer. They made sure gamers got their fill of the game with a PS4 release trailer that you can check out below.
The game will feature all the dungeon-crawling, adventuring and questing that’s present on the PC and Xbox One versions of the game, including the latest expansions that take players to the Underdark or Icewind Dale.
I wasn’t particularly fond of Neverwinter. It was a pretty generic gameplay experience compared to games like RaiderZ or TERA or Vindictus. Even still, a lot of people loved the more action-oriented approach that Cryptic took with the series by bringing the Dungeons & Dragons concept up into a more modern day gameplay paradigm.
Of course, the most common sense question to spawn out of the game’s announcement coming to the PS4 is: will you be able to play with Xbox and PC gamers? The short answer is: no.
The long answer comes from Perfect World’s own Alex Monney, who took to the comment section to answer a few questions before jetting off and presumably pantomiming the counting of all the dollar bills when the game hits the PS4 and the cash shop explodes, explaining…
“As of now, we do not have plans for cross-play with PC. Our team wants to make sure that there is a level playing field when adventurers jump into Neverwinter on PS4 for the first time.”
Well, so much for that.
You also won’t be able to import your PC or Xbox One characters onto the PS4 version. On the plus side you won’t need a PlayStation Plus account to play the game, which is pretty cool.
You can look for the free-to-play title to go live sometime this summer. Alternatively, you can play the game right now, for free, on the Xbox One or PC.
