The first episode for Telltale Games’ Batman: The Telltale Series will go live for the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4 and PC on August 2nd. The game will also be available on compatible iOS and Android devices.
A press release was recently issued by Telltale alongside a brand new gameplay trailer to help put some eyes on the upcoming point-and-click adventure game starring both Batman and Bruce Wayne. You can check out the stylized trailer below.
The trailer is quite fascinating in the sense that it seems to take on more of a story oriented around the psychology and principles of the Batman and Bruce Wayne dynamic rather than simply showcasing an invincible Batman with a side-order of Wayne.
The hints at a more human depiction of the Dark Knight seems to call back to the likes of the Nolan trilogy, which was more about the journey Bruce took on his way to creating a legacy and the toll he paid with both mind and body in shouldering the weight of Gotham’s crimes as a vigilante.
The animations for Batman: The Telltale Series look okay, but the visual style seems to be a heightened comic art-style, with the Batman suit looking particularly menacing.
The engine’s renderer has most certainly been improved to make better use of shadows, light contrasts and a far more impressive looking set of shaders compared to Telltale’s The Walking Dead.
My only minor gripe is that they didn’t make Bruce Wayne look distinctive enough… and I definitely would have preferred if Kevin Conroy had returned to voice the iconic character.
Nothing against Troy Baker, but the generic design of Bruce fused with a generic voice for Bruce just makes him… generic.
Anyway, you can look to get your hands on Episode 1: Realm of Shadows for Batman: The Telltale Series starting August 2nd on a Tuesday for the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4, PC, iOS and Android.
Telltale will be releasing the additional episodes throughout the year leading up to end of the season with Episode 5 before December 31st, 2016. For more info feel free to visit the official website.
