A new stealth, mystery-horror game called CASE: Animatronics has made its way onto the Steam store recently for just $9.99. It’s developed by Last Level and published by HypeTrain Digital. It’s a game about investigating a police department being overrun by killer animatronic puppets.
The game sees players in the role of detective John Bishop, working a late night case at the police department when the electricity goes out and someone begins stalking Bishop. Players must hide play a game of hide and seek as they flee from the killer animatronic hunting them down.
Unlike Five Nights at Freddy’s – the game that CASE is obviously mirrored after – you do get to move around freely, making use of a tablet that taps into the police station’s central security station, so you can see what’s going on around the station. You can also use a flashlight to survey the area and see where you’re going.
You can see what some of the gameplay is like courtesy of 8-BitRyan, featuring 16 minutes of raw gameplay.
It’s described as Five Nights at Freddy’s meets Outlast. That’s a surprisingly accurate summation of the game.
CASE: Animatronics is partly about exploration and puzzle solving and another part about running and hiding from the animatronics.
While the reviews are mostly positive, some of the negative reviews point out things like being killed through the walls, lots of filler content to stretch the gameplay out beyond two hours, and that there isn’t really enough story there to hook you. On the other hand, a lot of people who enjoy the Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise seem to like the game.
It seems like a game that might be worth it just to watch on YouTube. Anyway, if you are a big fan of Five Nights at Freddy’s you can pick up a digital copy of the game by hitting up the Steam store page.
