Square Enix had Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata come forward to break the news to gamers that the upcoming JRPG for the Xbox One and PS4 has been delayed by two months, from September 30th to November 29th, 2016.
Tabata let the news go loose in a five minute video, where he apologized to fans for the delay, but also noted that it was necessary to help them achieve their vision. The video went live over on the Final Fantasy XV Youtube channel. Check it out below.
For the hearing impaired, Tabata states…
“From the moment we joined this project, our vision was to create a level of freedom and realism previously unseen in the series. Regrettably, we need a little bit more time to deliver on this vision and are confident that this new release date will help us achieve this,”
“As the director and lead of this project, I wish to personally apologize for the additional wait. As a team, we want Final Fantasy XV to achieve a level of perfection that our fans deserve. We kindly ask for your understanding.”
It seems a little close to be delaying the game by two months. It seems like something that should have happened in July to better prep gamers for the delay. Nevertheless, a game that gets delayed is eventually made good but a game that’s rushed out to market will be forever bad. That’s to paraphrase the great Shigeru Miyamoto.
I’m sure some die-hards and investors are a bit peeved that the game is moved back – and for that matter moved back beyond Black Friday – but if it means the game won’t launch broken or with game-breaking glitches, then it’s all good in my book.
Previous to this news being confirmed, rumors had been running rampant that Final Fantasy XV was delayed and that Square has already been updating retailers on what to modify and how to adjust their display for the game’s new release date.
This comes after Square defended the game’s season pass and DLC for Final Fantasy XV, where they stated that the content was not cut from the main game. We’ll see how true that is when the title launches with its new date on November 29th for the Xbox One and PS4.
