Outcast: Second Contact Coming To PS4, Xbox One, PC In March 2017

Developers Bigben and Appeal Studio have announced that their game Outcast: Second Contact will release for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC in March of 2017 next year. Gamers will get a first-hand glimpse of the open-world action title in action at this year’s GamesCom in Cologne, Germany between August 17th and August 19th.

The game sees players in the role of ex Special Forces operative Cutter Slade, as he’s sent on a mission to lead a group of scientists to an alternate world called Adelpha. It’s a dangerous mission because a probe that was sent to the world through a rift was destroyed by a hostile being and it’s up to Slade and the scientists to figure why the probe was destroyed and how to save Earth in the process.

According to All Games Delta, Outcast: Second Contact is a remake of the 1999 game Outcast, which came out for PC.

To be completely honest, I actually don’t remember the original Outcast. Admittedly, it was overshadowed by games like The Devil Inside, Max Payne and Redline that were all out around that time. That’s not to mention that games like Perfect Dark, Half-Life and Hitman were getting most of the attention at the time.

The screenshots for Outcast don’t look bad, and Adelpha looks little like a procedurally generated planet from one of the many indie survival games out there.

Graphically the fidelity looks good, but I’m more concerned about the gameplay. They state in the press release that Outcast was an award winning title but I don’t remember what magazines gave it that award.

You can check out a trailer below from the original game from micc1111. For a 1999 release it didn’t look that bad.

The gameplay was definitely a step behind in quality from titles like Perfect Dark or Codename Eagle, but it was what it was.

We’ll see if they can create a mechanically-rich gameplay environment to match the graphics of the Outcast remake. Expect to see more of the game next week at GamesCom in Cologne, Germany.
