You asked for it and id Software has delivered. The first ever gameplay trailer for Quake Champions has surfaced. It’s like a cross between Mortal Kombat and Quake II, hearkening back to the old-school days of fast-paced, arena-style shooting fests.
The trailer is only a minute and 16 seconds long, but it gives you enough gameplay snippets to see just how fast-paced it really is. Unlike the 2016 version of DOOM’s multiplayer, things are as quick and as fast as Hillary Clinton’s PR team spinning the news about the DNC leaks into a Trump and Putin tryst. Check it out below.
There’s more gib in that trailer than the leftover fat from a Hollywood liposuction facility.
We see some rocket jumping, we see some super shotguns on display, we see some of the new special abilities in action where one of the characters tramples another, we see a giant eyeball chained up in the room like some kind of hell version of Brazzers, we see a one-shot sniper kill while hopping across some wooden pillars like some kind of spring-boot-wearing ninja with 360 no-scope abilities. Ultimately, we see the past glory of Quake brought into the future and it looks good.
The comments for the trailer consists of a lot of “cautiously optimistic” types. That’s not bad given that previously more people were pessimistic over the character abilities at first, but it looks like id Software is starting to get the crotchety types warmed up to the new iteration of Quake.
The footage was unveiled at this year’s QuakeCon, which seems to have arrived faster than Patreon links on a Twitter feed after someone claims to have been harassed. Id Software has plans on rolling out the closed beta for the game in early 2017, but they want to assure fans of a couple of things: First up, the game is very fast. Second of all, there is no limit on the amount of guns you can carry. That is all.
