Rocket League Rumble Mode Will Add Smash Bros-Style Mutators

A new mode for Rocket League called Rumble will add a number of different items to the game, including a crazy tornado, a boot and even a ripcord, which is very similar to the ripcord used in Rocket Science Games’ Rocket Jockey from back in the late 1990s.

A new trailer was released to showcase how the mutators can drastically alter the gameplay, from utilizing grappling hooks to swing the ball into the net with ease, to making good on ice bonuses to freeze the ball in place, there are a number of different mutators to drastically alter how the match is played. You can check out the trailer below.

In addition to the more conspicuous items, we also see some other modifiers for the mutators, such as electric grappling hooks where two or more players can latch onto the ball and fly along the walls.

Another crazy item that will make the cut is the spring-loaded punching glove. You can briefly see it in action along with the boot throughout the brief clips that are sprinkled throughout the minute long trailer above. A list of the mutators are as follows.

The Boot (Kicks an opponent’s car)

Disruptor (Forces your opponent to drive uncontrollably)

Freezer (Freezes the ball in-place)

Grappling Hook (Pulls you towards the ball)

Haymaker (Punches the ball)

Magnetizer (Attracts the ball to your car)

Plunger (Grabs the ball via plunger and cord)

Power Hitter (Allows you to hit everything harder)

Spike (Attach the ball to your car when you bump into it)

Swapper (Change positions on the field with your opponent)

Tornado (Sweep up the ball and opposing cars into a giant funnel cloud)

It’s amazing that one year on and Psyonix is still pumping out new content for Rocket League and still has a strong player base. Who would have thought that such a game as Rocket League could have managed to capture the hearts and attention of millions?

Then again, Psyonix has also been doing a lot to maintain player interest, from free DLC, to lots of consistent updates and patches, to the cross-platform compatibility between PC and console players, there’s a lot to keep gamers coming back for more.

If the Rumble mode seems like something that would keep you playing the game for more than what you’ve already invested into it, then you can look for the Rocket League update to go live starting this September. For further info, feel free to visit the official website.
