Signal Decay – A New Type of Stealth Game Is Officially Greenlit For Steam

Signal Decay is a clever mix of Splinter Cell and the classic X-com games combined together, but turned into a real time, top-down shooter co-operative stealth strategy game.

Signal Decay, formerly known as Squad Of Saviors, is an indie game developed by Zack Zhang. The entire game has a very heavy focus on Stealth and cooperation, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that the game offers both local and online co-op for up to 3 players, but if you choose to play alone, it has a single player mode as well. The developer released a new teaser gameplay trailer that shows a bit of what the game is like, so I linked it down below so you can get an idea of how it all works.

The two players (if you are playing cooperatively), starts off by choosing their equipment loadout, your job is to infiltrate the enemy base to locate and sabotage radio wave machines without being detected. The game has a heavy focus on espionage and stealth, so if you fail to proceed quietly you might just raise the alarms to alert the entire facility of your presence which will make your job of sabotaging the machines more difficult.

Signal Decay also reminds me a lot of the old classic Syndicate game from the SNES and Sega Genesis era, as it has a similar play style and concept. After the mission, you will be able to research new items to upgrade your characters and go to the armory to change your equipment. From there, you will be able to access your world map and select your next mission.

Signal Decay has a really unique concept, because while you are on your main ship, the game doesn’t really ever change from the top-down perspective, so even while traveling to your next destination the game will show the distance and time it will take to travel there, but you will still be able to move around, change equipment, or research new items. So in that regards, it is a lot like the classic X-com games, but a bit more personal since you are playing two specific agents.

Upon arriving at your destination, you can then walk to the exit to deploy and start the mission, so you have a feeling of immersion since the game gives you that personal and manual style of gameplay. It’s really quite the cool concept and I really want to see more of this game. Explaining how the game works is one thing, but actually seeing it is another. So take a look at this longer alpha gameplay video that showcases the cooperative play style of Signal Decay in action.

Signal Decay was easily Greenlit by the community to become an official Steam game, and has won quite a few indie game awards for its new take on stealth and cooperative gameplay.
