Arakion Book One: First Person Dungeon Crawler Is Successfully Kickstarted

Remember those old-school classic dungeon crawlers like Daggerfall and Shining In The Darkness? Arakion: Book One is a similar game with classic RPG elements, but with modern day graphics and mechanics to bring a bit of originality to the genre.

Developers Lavidimus and Andrew Milne submitted their game to Steam Greenlight and the community voted it through pretty quickly for the unique features the game has to offer. On top of this, the Kickstarter campaign that was launched for Arakion: Book One was also funded rather fast, earning the development studio a little more than $47,580 USD to help support the game.

Arakion also sticks with a retro RPG combat system that is similar to what you would expect from classic first person dungeon crawlers where the character’s pictures are located at the bottom of the screen, so you never actually see them moving around or attacking. Instead of describing it, take a look at the trailer I linked below so you can see what the actual game looks like.

Arakion: Book One has a lot of features that makes this game look interesting, so here is a quick overview to catch you up to speed. First, you will be able to create and customize your own character in a variety of ways, not only from their physical appearance by shaping their facial structure and choosing different hairstyles, but also through adventuring and learning new skills. The developers released a small trailer video for the character creation process, so take a look at the video below.

You won’t have a large party of adventurers with you, instead the game focuses on just three heroes that will be on your team. The developers also say that they completely did away with the grind of leveling up your characters, and instead they use an action based system to develop your heroes based on the choices you make.

Arakion: Book One will also allow players to have a town hub that they will be able to customize and build, and depending on the items you place in your town can also give you a few benefits for your characters as well to help you on your adventure.

Tired of procedural worlds? Well, Arakion takes place in a handcrafted universe for you to explore. There are a few things in the game that will randomize to add a bit of variety to the game, such as the monsters have different classes the system can choose from and will randomly pick one when spawning the monsters.

So sometimes you might come across a goblin monster that throws rocks, while the next time it could choose it to be a wizard, etc. The developer released a little more than 10 minutes of gameplay footage so you can see exactly how the game plays out, and even though he skips quite a bit to avoid spoilers, you get a pretty good idea about where the game is headed in terms of gameplay. Checkout the Arakion: Book One gameplay video I linked below.

As you may have guessed from the name of the game, Arakion: Book One is the first in a series that will be released. In total there will be three books in this episodic adventure, and within those three books there will be about 20 chapters to complete the game. The first part of the game is currently scheduled for a fourth quarter 2016 release date, so if everything goes according to plan you should see it for purchase soon.
