Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered Trailer Shows Multiplayer Gameplay

Activision pumped out the multiplayer trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered over the weekend, featuring a minute and a half of gameplay from the upcoming re-release of the popular FPS from nearly a decade ago.

It’s pretty sad that a decade on and there hasn’t been much progress, innovation or advancements when it comes to multiplayer PvP combat in a first-person shooter. Now I know a bunch of fanboys will say “But there’s nothing to enhance!” when in reality we still don’t have proper procedural destruction, only Max Payne 3 seemed to take bullet penetration seriously, Battlefield is the only brand name shooter with a heavy focus on vehicles and squad play, and I can’t think of one multiplayer shooter outside of APB: Reloaded that has civilians and takes place in a crowded urban area.

Sadly, seeing the trailer below for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered reminds me of how pathetic, shallow, and stunted the FPS genre has become. Sad days indeed.

As for the trailer itself, as you can see there are a number of clips featuring highly detailed, remastered environments and upgraded textures to fit the limitations of today’s home consoles. It’s nothing “wow” worthy, but it’s a slight step up from the sub-HD outing from back in 2007.

It’s kind of sad seeing so many people excited to see a remastered edition of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare over the newer Infinite Warfare… then again, maybe it’s not sad. Maybe it’s a sign that Activision has been riding out a stale franchise for so long that people would rather just stick with the game that they had fun with from the beginning instead of looking forward to another factory-made AAA shooter.

To the credit of Infinity Ward, at least Infinite Warfare has flying spaceships… that’s what new for this upcoming title. Beyond that it’s still pretty much the same thing.

Anyway, you can look for the base 10 maps to be made available for the remastered edition of Modern Warfare when the game launches in November, and then Activision will release six more maps for free in December. For more info feel free to hit up the game’s official website.
